United Kingdom 🇬🇧
- EU Pet Passport no longer works post-Brexit - you need an Animal Health Certificate.
- The AHC must be issued by an Official Veterinarian no more than 10 days before travel.
- A microchip is required and the rabies vaccination must be recorded.
- No waiting period is required if the rabies vaccination is current.
United States 🇺🇸
- A USDA-endorsed health certificate is required.
- Rabies vaccination must be recorded by a licensed vet.
- USDA APHIS endorsement is required and can take 2-4 weeks.
- Some airlines request extra documentation, so verify requirements 90 days ahead.
Australia 🇦🇺
- Australia has strict biosecurity export controls, so you need an export permit.
- An import permit from Spain is required before travel.
- Microchip, rabies vaccination, and a rabies titer test are all mandatory.
- The titer test must be processed by an EU-approved lab and results often take 3-6 weeks.
Ireland 🇮🇪
- Ireland is part of the EU, so an EU Pet Passport is valid.
- The microchip must comply with ISO 11784/11785.
- Rabies vaccination must be administered after microchipping.
- Dogs travelling to Ireland from Spain need tapeworm treatment.
