How to Get Your NIE in Spain
The NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is your tax ID in Spain. You cannot rent a flat, open a bank account, or buy a car without it. Our guide makes the 2026 process seamless.
The Quick Extraction Process
Book Appointment
Visit the official Sede Electrónica and select 'Certificados y Asignación de NIE'. Slots in Valencia release at midnight.
Complete EX-15
Fill out the standard NIE application form stating your clear 'economic, professional, or social' reason.
Pay Modelo 790
Pay the €12.05 government fee at any Spanish bank before your appointment time.
Attend & Collect
Bring your original passport + copies to Gran Via Marqués del Túria, 67. Many receive the number on the spot.
NIE vs. TIE: Don't Confuse Them
A NIE is just a number printed on a white A4 certificate. It never expires. A TIE is a physical plastic residency card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) that contains your NIE number. If you are non-EU, you will eventually need the TIE, but the NIE is the foundation.
"Pro Tip: If you are still in your home country, apply via your local Spanish Consulate. It is often 10x faster and allows you to arrive in Valencia with your ID already in your pocket."
