Valencia's 5 essential experiences
First-time visitor or long-term expat — these are the events every Valencia resident should experience at least once.
March 1–19
Fallas Festival
UNESCO-listed. Ninots (giant sculptures) fill every street before being burnt at midnight on the Nit del Foc. Firecrackers start at 2pm daily. Nothing else like it anywhere.
July
Viveros Summer Concerts
World-class concerts held in Valencia's beautiful Jardines de Viveros under the stars. The setting alone makes any show memorable.
April
València Cuina Oberta
Valencia's best restaurants offer exclusive tasting menus at special prices. The best way to experience the city's extraordinary food scene in one week.
June 23–24
San Juan Night
Midsummer on Malvarrosa Beach. Bonfires, music, fireworks, and the tradition of jumping over flames at midnight. One of Valencia's most atmospheric nights.
April
Mostra Proava Wine Fair
Local Valencian wines and artisanal products fill the Jardín del Turia. Excellent for discovering the DO Valencia and DO Utiel-Requena wine regions.
Year-round
Opera at Palau de les Arts
Calatrava's iconic opera house stages world-class productions. Tickets are significantly cheaper than equivalent performances in London, Paris, or Vienna.
Practical tips for events in Valencia
Book Fallas accommodation early
Hotels fill up in September for March Fallas. If you're visiting, book at least 6 months ahead. Many Valencia residents rent out rooms during this week.
The Metro runs late during festivals
EMT (city bus) and Metrovalencia extend services during major events. The Viveros venue has a dedicated bus route during concert season.
Event websites are often in Spanish only
Palau de les Arts, Palau de la Música, and La Rambleta all have English versions of their ticketing sites. Google Translate handles the rest fine.
Many top events are free or cheap
Fallas mascletà (daily firecracker display at 2pm) is free. The Tribunàl de les Aigues (UNESCO Water Court) is free every Thursday. San Juan beach night is free.
