The documents you will probably need translated
Spanish consulates and the Extranjer铆a accept only translations done by a Traductor Jurado registered with the Spanish Foreign Ministry. The list below covers 90% of expat cases - check the consulate notice for your country before ordering, since exact bundles vary by visa type. Apostilled birth certificate
Apostille firstFamily reunification, child residence card, school enrolment for under-16s. Apostille first in the country of issue, then translate.
Apostilled marriage certificate
Apostille firstSpouse residence (DNV-family, NLV-family). Must have been issued in the last 6 months for some consulates.
Apostilled criminal record check
ACRO (UK), FBI Identity History Summary (US), AFP/ACIC (AU), Garda (IE). Apostille required, then sworn translation. Validity is 90 days from issue - don't translate too early.
University degree + transcripts
Highly Qualified Professional visa, NOM-list jobs, NIE for graduate-level employment. Some consulates also want the apostille on the degree.
Bank statements (last 6-12 months)
DNV and NLV financial-means proof. No apostille needed but must be on bank letterhead, signed or stamped.
Income proof: payslips, tax returns, P60/W-2
DNV and NLV financial-means proof for the lead applicant. Exact thresholds vary by visa type and year.
Private health insurance certificate
DNV and NLV. Must be Spain-licensed, no co-pay, no deductible, full medical and hospital cover. Your insurer can usually issue the certificate directly in a Spanish-acceptable format.
Apostilled medical certificate
Apostille firstSays you do not have a 'disease that could pose a public health threat per IHR 2005'. Issued by your GP, apostilled, valid 90 days.
Pro tip: Order apostilles BEFORE booking translations. A retranslation triggered by a fresh apostille (because the first one expired) is the most common avoidable cost we see, so get the sequence right the first time.

Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Uni贸n Europea y Cooperaci贸n. Issues the official list of sworn translators and authenticates Spanish documents bound for use abroad.
OIL
Oficina de Interpretaci贸n de Lenguas, the body within MAEC that certifies Traductores-Int茅rpretes Jurados and maintains the public registry.

Hague Apostille framework used by 120+ countries to authenticate documents without a consular chain. The single-step alternative to legalisation.
Subdelegaci贸n del Gobierno
Provincial government office where residency, family-reunification and EX-15 / EX-23 files are submitted in person.
DGT
Direcci贸n General de Tr谩fico. Receives sworn translations of foreign driving licences for exchange, with a separate workflow for non-Hague countries.
Registro Civil
Civil registry. Birth, marriage, death and pareja de hecho records are filed here once translations are sworn.

Does my Spanish visa file need a sworn translation?
That covers birth and marriage certificates, police background checks, degrees and employer letters. A plain professional translation, however good, is not accepted in its place.
How fast can I get a sworn translation in Valencia?
If you already have a consulate or NIE appointment booked, tell us the date up front. It changes how we schedule the file.
Will the consulate accept a translation done outside Spain?
If your file may be used both abroad and later in Spain, a Spanish traduccion jurada is the safer single option.
Apostille first, or translation first?
What is the difference between a sworn translator and an interpreter?
