How to get your Empadronamiento in Valencia 2026 (step-by-step)
Empadronamiento is your official registration on the city's Padron Municipal (municipal register). It is free, takes one appointment, and unlocks almost every public service in Spain - from healthcare to school enrollment to your SIP card.
What Is Empadronamiento?
The Padron Municipal is Spain's official population register. Every municipality is required to maintain it, and every person living in Spain - regardless of nationality or visa status - is entitled to register at their address. It is the gateway document that unlocks bank accounts, school places, and most relocation tasks. If you would rather not chase the appointment yourself, our admin support service books the padrón slot and goes with you.
Registration is tied to your physical address, not your visa. You can register on a tourist visa, on the Non-Lucrative Visa, as a Digital Nomad, or under the Beckham regime. It proves you live where you say you live, and it is required to apply for your NIE / TIE.
You cannot apply for a SIP health card, enrol children in school, or exchange your driving licence without a valid empadronamiento certificate. Do this in week one.
Step-by-Step Process
Book Your Appointment
Book on valencia.es under Trámites, then Cita previa, or call 010. Choose the office and a slot from those offered; the time is an interval, and the Juntas also see people without an appointment.
Gather Your Documents
Bring originals and photocopies of everything. Missing a copy will mean rescheduling - Valencia's offices rarely have a copier on site.
Attend the Appointment
Present your documents to the municipal officer. The process takes 10-15 minutes. You will receive a stamped certificate (volante de empadronamiento) the same day.
Use Your Certificate
The certificate is valid for 3 months. Use it to apply for your SIP health card, school enrollment, and as proof of address for NIE/TIE appointments.

Renting a Room? You Still QualifyIf you rent a room in a shared flat, the council's form is the Autorización de inscripción en una vivienda ajena: the tenant named on the lease signs it and adds a copy of their ID, and so does the owner when the flat is rented. A room contract also works if it states how many rooms the flat has and which one is yours. Without one of the two, you have no proof of address.
Valencia Junta Municipal Offices
Valencia has 19 administrative districts but only eleven counters process padrón: the central office at the Casa Consistorial, the Oficina de Atención Ciudadana at the old Tabacalera and nine of the Juntas Municipales, three of them in the pobles on limited days. The other Juntas handle district business and will send you away for empadronamiento.

An appointment is not strictly required - the city treats cita previa as a way to skip the queue rather than a condition of being seen - but booking one on valencia.es or through the 010 line is still the sensible move at the central office. On Thursdays between 10:00 and 12:00, priority goes to people over 65.
