Independent Theatre

Teatro Flumen, Valencia

An independent neighborhood theatre near the Turia gardens, with comedy, musicals and family shows on nearly every week of the year.

Teatro Flumen is one of Valencia's busiest independent stages, on Calle Gregorio Gea where Extramurs meets Marxalenes, a short walk from the old Turia riverbed. Its calendar mixes stand-up comedy, musicals, concerts and children's shows, with something on almost every weekend.

The essentials

Address

Calle Gregorio Gea 15, 46009 Valencia

Neighborhood & metro

Between Extramurs and Marxalenes, just outside Ciutat Vella and close to the Turia gardens. Nearest metro: Turia (lines 1 and 2), a few minutes' walk.

Size & feel

A renovated mid-sized hall with comfortable seating and a close-to-the-stage feel, plus an outdoor terrace that comes into its own on summer nights.

Type & programming

Stand-up and comedy monologues, musicals, concerts and a strong line-up of children's and family shows, in both small and large formats.

About the venue

The Flumen opened in 1958 as a continuous-session cinema, later turned art-house screen and popular summer terrace, and went dark in 2007. A full renovation brought it back to life in 2010 as the independent theatre it is today.

Its programming is deliberately broad: local stand-up comedians, touring musicals, concerts and dramatic works share the calendar, and weekend family matinees are a house signature that keeps the neighborhood coming back.

It remains a proudly local venue - accessible prices, a regular Valencian crowd and a summer terrace that nods to the building's open-air cinema past.

Tips for your visit

Comedy nights are almost always in Spanish, which makes them a fun (and humbling) test if you are learning the language - family shows are easier to follow at any level.

Book online through the theatre's own ticketing site; if you prefer the box office, it opens Thursday to Sunday from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The Turia gardens are minutes away, so pair a matinee with a walk or bike ride through the riverbed, and the Turia metro stop makes getting home simple.

What's on now

Teatro Flumen publishes its weekly line-up and ticket links on its official website. Check there for current programming and dates.
