Living in Orriols

Orriols sits at the eastern edge of Rascanya, north of Benimaclet and bordered by Avenida de Catalunya, with the working-class hub of Torrefiel as its western neighbour on the metro line 1 spine. Over the past two decades Orriols has become Valencia's most genuinely multicultural barrio - Latin American, Moroccan, Pakistani and West African communities have built a food scene along Avenida Constitucio and Calle Pintor Sorolla that has no parallel elsewhere in the city.

Housing is dominated by 1960s and 1970s blocks with 80-95 square metre flats, balconies and original tile. Renovation is slower than in centre barrios. 2026 rents start at 650 euros for a 1-bed and run to 950 for a renovated 90 square metre 2-bed. This is consistently the cheapest barrio in the city for renters who want metro access.

Transport: Orriols metro (L3) is in the heart of the barrio and reaches Xativa in 10 minutes or the airport in 30. EMT bus 28 runs along Avenida Constitucio. Walking to Ciutat Vella takes 35 minutes.

Trade-offs: thin English-language services, a streetscape that can feel rough at night on some blocks, and limited specialty dining (though international street food is exceptional). But for renters who want the cheapest real metro flat in Valencia and a genuinely interesting food scene, Orriols is the best value in the city.

Parc dels Orriols, the barrio's own park.
