La Filmoteca is Valencia's public film archive cinema, housed in the rationalist Edificio Rialto on Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Run by the regional government's audiovisual institute, it screens classics, restorations and arthouse cycles in original version - easily one of the best-value nights out in the city.

Tickets & prices
General admission is 2.50 EUR, a 10-session pass costs 20 EUR, and under-30s, students and seniors pay 1.50 EUR. Children under 14 go free.

About the venue
The Filmoteca is the film archive of the Generalitat Valenciana: it preserves and restores the region's audiovisual heritage, and its screening room in the Rialto building shows work from that archive alongside cycles borrowed from cinematheques around the world.
It shares the building with the Teatre Rialto, the public theatre in the same rationalist landmark - two institutions with two separate box offices behind one facade on the square.
For English speakers the programming is a quiet gift: a large share of the classics are anglophone films shown in English with Spanish or Valencian subtitles, so it is one of the easiest places in Valencia to watch great cinema in English on a big screen.
Tips for your visit
Original version means the film's own language: an American classic screens in English, but a French or Japanese one will carry Spanish or Valencian subtitles, not English - check each listing before you go.
Tickets are sold through the Institut Valencia de Cultura's online box office and at the door from 30 minutes before each screening. Popular cycles do fill up, and the 10-session pass pays for itself quickly if you come often.
In July and August the programming moves outdoors to the Filmoteca d'Estiu, an open-air season in the Turia gardens - one of Valencia's loveliest summer-night traditions.
