What your move to Valencia costs before day one
Flights, shipping, visa paperwork, temporary housing, the rental deposit: the move itself is a budget of its own. Set your origin, household and shipping volume and get a realistic 2026 move-in total in seconds.
Move-from-Abroad Budget Calculator
The international move itself - shipping, flights, visa costs, temporary housing - is the budget that catches people off-guard. Adjust the inputs to your situation and see what to plan for before you arrive.
Most expats need 4-8 weeks in short-term rentals while they search for a long-term place.
Pet relocation (vet certificates, EU pet passport, transport) typically runs EUR 600-1,500 per animal depending on origin and species.
Lawyer fees, apostilles, sworn translations, and consulate fees for the most common visas (NLV, DNV).
Move-In Budget
Shipping is the biggest variable. If most of your furniture is from IKEA or replaceable, leaving it behind and buying fresh in Valencia often beats a 40ft container. Get 3 quotes from international movers - prices vary by 30-40%.
Estimate, not a quote
Real costs vary by season (summer flights cost more), origin port, mover, and visa pathway. Pet costs spike for snub-nosed breeds and US-origin moves under stricter health checks. Get binding quotes from at least 2 movers and 1 immigration lawyer before locking your budget.

What this calculator estimates
The tool adds up the seven one-off costs of an international move to Valencia: flights, shipping your belongings, temporary housing while you search for a long-term rental, pet relocation, visa setup, the rental deposit with your first month of rent, and a small line for setup admin. Pick your origin region, household size and shipping volume, toggle pets and visa on or off, and it returns a single move-in budget in euros. It is the budget people most often underestimate, because it sits on top of normal monthly living costs.
The 2026 assumptions behind the math
Every figure comes from the averages built into the calculator:
- Flights: one-way per person - 150 EUR from Europe, 200 EUR from the UK or Ireland, 750 EUR from the US or Canada, 900 EUR from Latin America, 1,500 EUR from Australia or New Zealand, 700 EUR from elsewhere. Solo counts 1 passenger, a couple 2, a family 4.
- Shipping: suitcases only adds nothing beyond your flight. A half container (20ft) runs from 1,800 EUR (Europe) to 5,500 EUR (Australia/NZ); a full container (40ft) from 3,500 EUR to 9,500 EUR depending on origin.
- Temporary housing: 700 EUR per week, adjustable from 0 to 12 weeks. Most arrivals need 4 to 8 weeks.
- Pets: 1,000 EUR per move, doubled for families on the assumption of two animals.
- Visa setup: 1,800 EUR per person for lawyer fees, apostilles, sworn translations and consulate fees.
- Rental deposit plus first month: 2,700 EUR, the Valencia average.
- Miscellaneous setup: 600 EUR for NIE help, a phone plan and small admin.
A worked example
A couple moving from the UK with a half container, 6 weeks of temporary housing, no pets and visa costs included comes to 400 EUR in flights, 2,400 EUR in shipping, 4,200 EUR in temporary housing, 3,600 EUR in visa setup, 2,700 EUR in deposit and first month, and 600 EUR in misc: a 14,100 EUR move-in budget.
Who this is for
Anyone planning a move to Valencia from abroad: solo remote workers, couples on a non-lucrative or digital nomad visa, and families relocating with children and pets. EU citizens can switch the visa toggle off and watch the total drop accordingly.
Estimate, not advice
These are planning estimates, not quotes and not financial advice. Real prices swing with the season, the origin port, the mover and your visa pathway. Before you lock a budget, get binding quotes from at least two international movers and one immigration lawyer.
