International schools often add a one-off enrolment fee (EUR 1,000-3,000) and an annual capital levy on top of tuition. Always read the full fee schedule, not just the headline tuition number.

Real fees vary widely between schools, age groups (infantil / primaria / secundaria / bachillerato) and individual school capital fees. International schools' fees in particular range from EUR 8,000 to EUR 18,000+ per year depending on grade. For a binding number, contact each school directly.

What this calculator estimates

This tool estimates the full annual cost of schooling in Valencia per child, not just the headline tuition number. Pick one of the four school types families actually choose between - public (escuela publica), concertada (state-subsidised semi-private), private Spanish-curriculum, or international - set how many children you have, then toggle the add-ons that real families end up paying for: comedor (school lunch), the school bus, after-school clubs and uniforms. The result panel shows a line-by-line budget per child, the total for your family, and the monthly equivalent spread over the 10-month Spanish school year, September to June.

The assumptions behind the math

The 2026 baseline figures, per child and per year, are: tuition of 0 EUR (public), 1,200 EUR (concertada voluntary fee), 6,000 EUR (private Spanish) and 11,000 EUR (international); materials and books of 250, 400, 600 and 900 EUR respectively; comedor at 110, 120, 150 and 180 EUR per month; school transport at 0, 90, 110 and 130 EUR per month; after-school extras at a flat 60 EUR per month per child; and uniforms at 0, 150, 250 and 350 EUR per year. All monthly items are counted over 10 school months. These are mid-range averages drawn from Generalitat Valenciana family budget data, ISC Research fee reports and the fee schedules Valencia schools publish themselves.

A worked example

Take the default scenario: two children at an international school, with comedor, the school bus and uniforms, but no extra clubs. Per child that is 11,000 EUR tuition, 900 EUR materials, 1,800 EUR comedor, 1,300 EUR transport and 350 EUR uniform, which comes to 15,350 EUR. For two children the family budget is 30,700 EUR per year, or about 3,070 EUR per school month. Switch the same family to a concertada and the per-child figure drops to 3,850 EUR - that gap between systems is the single biggest schooling decision you will make in Valencia.

Who this is for, and the honest caveats

This is built for families planning a move who are weighing free public schooling against concertada and international options before committing to a barrio, and for parents already here who want to sanity-check what next year will cost. Two honest caveats. First, the total deliberately excludes one-off enrolment fees, which at Valencia international schools typically run 1,000 to 3,000 EUR per child, plus any annual capital levy - always read the full fee schedule, not just tuition. Second, real fees vary widely: international tuition alone ranges from roughly 8,000 to 18,000+ EUR depending on grade, and every school updates its fees yearly. Treat the result as a planning estimate and confirm binding numbers with each school directly.
