Montanejos Day Trip from Valencia: Fuente de los Banos
Spring water at a constant 25C, all year round, in a river gorge village in the Castellon mountains. Spain's first inland river bathing spot to earn a Blue Flag.
A warm spring in a cold river, all year round
Montanejos is a small mountain village in Castellon province, built into a gorge on the Mijares river about 95km inland from Valencia. What brings people here is the Fuente de los Banos, a mineral spring that feeds the river at a constant 25C.
Because the water stays warm regardless of the season, this is one of the few natural swimming spots near Valencia that genuinely works in winter as well as summer.

What to do in Montanejos
Fuente de los Banos
Natural pools in the riverbed where the 25C spring meets the colder Mijares. The bathing area was first certified with a Blue Flag in 2025, the first inland river spot in Spain to earn one.
Senda de la Bojera
A signposted riverside walking trail that follows the gorge past the spring, giving a longer look at the valley for anyone who wants to combine the swim with a walk.
The old town and mills
Montanejos itself is a stone-built village stacked up the hillside, with old water mills along the river that once used the same constant flow the bathers swim in today.
Getting there and what to bring
Montanejos is reached by road via the CV-20 and CV-190, about 1h15 from Valencia with no motorway toll. There is no direct train, so this is a car trip rather than a public transport one. The ayuntamiento's own page on the Fuente de los Banos has the practical details, including access points and parking.
Bring water shoes: the riverbed is stone and can be slippery. The water is cold enough on the Mijares side of the pools that most people stay closer to the spring outlet, where the 25C water mixes in.
