Living in Safranar, Valencia: a neighborhood guide
A growing Patraix barrio whose name means a field of saffron
Living in Safranar
Safranar () is a barrio of the Patraix district in the south-west of the city. It borders Vara de Quart to the north, Patraix to the east, Favara and Camí Reial to the south, and Sant Isidre to the west.
The Ajuntament writes the name el Safranar in both Valencian and Castilian. In Valencian a safranar is a field where saffron is grown, the word the Spanish call azafranal, according to the Diccionari Català-Valencià-Balear. The sources we checked do not say when saffron was last grown here, so treat the name as a memory of the old Horta rather than a dated fact.
It is one of the fastest-growing barrios in the south-west. According to the Ajuntament's municipal register, 10,903 people lived in Safranar on 1 January 2025, on 44.1 hectares, against 8,240 in 2001. Much of that growth came from new blocks on former workshop and warehouse plots; some low industrial sheds still stand between them.
Transport and trade-offs: Safranar station, on metro lines 1, 2 and 7, serves the barrio, and EMT buses run along Avenida del Archiduque Carlos and the streets towards Patraix. Some streets are still half built, with empty plots and sheds, and the barrio has little to draw visitors. For an older centre with a square and a church, Patraix is next door; Favara lies just south.

What rent costs in Safranar (September 2026)
Safranar asks 15 EUR per m² a month on Fotocasa's rent index for September 2026, below the 18 EUR the city of Valencia averages. At that rate a 70 m² two-bedroom lists at around 1,050 EUR a month, before you negotiate. These are asking prices on new listings, not what sitting tenants pay.
Asking prices here are 11.1% above a year earlier, against 7% for the city as a whole.
This is the figure for the barrio itself. The Patraix district it belongs to reads 15 EUR on the same index.
Safranar has older blocks near Patraix and newer ones on former industrial plots, so new-build flats let well above the figure above.
Our renting guide explains what landlords ask for and what the fianza and agency fee add on signing day, and the upfront cost calculator runs the maths for any rent.
Public and concertado schools in this neighbourhood
The Conselleria's school guide doesn't allow direct links to an individual school's page, so each card below gives you the school's official code instead. Open the guide, paste the code into the search box and the school's page comes up. Like many Spanish public administration websites, it takes a little patience.
