A castle, a beach and a river, all in one town
Cullera sits where the Jucar river meets the Mediterranean, about 45km south of Valencia. The old town climbs a hill toward a Moorish and medieval castle, and the newer part of town runs down to a wide sandy beach and a working lighthouse.
It is close enough to do properly in a single day: castle in the morning while it is cool, lunch by the river or the beach, then either the sand or a paddle on the Jucar in the afternoon.

The Castell i muralles de Cullera sits on the hill above town and is a declared historic-artistic site, with views over the delta, the beach and the mountains behind.
L'Assut de la Marquesa
A restored weir on the Jucar a short drive from the centre, popular for kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing in calm water, with an old mill and quiet birdwatching along the banks.
The beach and lighthouse
Cullera's main beach is a wide stretch of sand backed by a promenade, with the Far de Cullera lighthouse marking the headland at its southern end.
Getting there and getting around
Cullera is a direct drive down the A-7 or the N-332 coast road from Valencia, about 40 minutes outside peak summer traffic. There is also a regular bus service from Valencia's bus station. The town's own tourism pages list current castle opening hours, which change with the season.
L'Assut de la Marquesa itself has no fixed opening hours, since it is an open natural area, but the kayak and paddleboard operators based there run scheduled sessions rather than casual rentals, so book ahead in July and August.
