Living in Pla del Remei

Pla del Remei is the small but mighty premium pocket of L'Eixample, wedged between Calle Colon, Gran Via Marques del Turia and Calle Cirilo Amoros. Mercado de Colon (1916, Modernista) anchors its centre and the surrounding blocks hold the densest concentration of boutique fashion, jewellers, fine dining and notarial offices in the city.

Residentially it is mostly elegant period buildings, many with original wrought-iron balconies, tile floors and 3-3.5 metre ceilings. The streets are tidy, well-lit and have the quietest residential feel of any central barrio after 10pm. In 2026, a renovated 2-bed runs 1,300 to 1,900 euros depending on the building and street.

Transport is excellent. Colon metro (L3, L5, L7, L9) is on the doorstep and you are 8 minutes walking from Xativa station for the cercanias to the airport or the beach. The Turia gardens are a 6-minute walk north. Most residents do not own cars - everything central is reachable on foot.

Trade-offs: this is not a young social scene. Bars close earlier than in Ruzafa, you will not find brunch culture on every corner, and the demographic skews older and Spanish. But for buyers and long-term renters who prioritise quality of building, safety and an easy walk to the best of Valencia, Pla del Remei is the best central choice.
