Living in Algiros

Algiros is where the founder of ValenciaMove has lived for years, and there is a reason for that. This university district northeast of the city centre offers one of the best quality-of-life-to-cost ratios in Valencia. It is central enough to walk or cycle to the old town, green enough to feel spacious, and local enough to avoid the expat bubble.

The neighborhood is defined by the Polytechnic University (UPV) campus, the Turia gardens (which run along its southern edge), and the Blasco Ibanez avenue connecting it to the beach. The City of Arts and Sciences sits at its western tip, making it a landmark-rich area with strong cultural identity.

Daily life in Algiros is practical and pleasant. The Avenida Blasco Ibanez has all the shops and services you need, the Turia gardens provide endless outdoor recreation, and the university presence keeps the neighborhood energetic without being chaotic. Rents are fair, apartments are generally modern, and the beach is a 15-minute bike ride away.

Algiros is not the most exciting neighborhood for nightlife or dining - for that, you will head to Ruzafa or El Carmen. But for expats who want a well-rounded daily life with good housing, green space, university energy, and easy access to both the city and the coast, Algiros is a seriously underrated choice.

Living in the Algiros district

Getting around

Tram lines 4 and 6 cross the district, and Amistat on line 5 covers the southern edge. Both the Universitat de Valencia and the UPV campuses are within walking distance.

The tram makes the beach about 10 minutes away, which is a genuine differentiator against the other inland districts.

What sets it apart

Algiros is the student district. Having two university campuses on its border sets the rental calendar: supply collapses in September and reappears in June, and a lot of the stock is let by the room rather than the flat.

Its five barrios are mostly 1960s and 1970s blocks, with Ciutat Jardi holding the greener, quieter streets.

Who it suits

Students, PhD researchers and young academics, plus anyone comfortable sharing and working around a term-time rhythm.

Families tend to prefer Ciutat Jardi within the district, since it sits furthest from the campus noise while keeping the tram.
