Living in La Carrasca

La Carrasca () is a barrio of the Algirós district, in the north-east of Valencia. It has the same name in Valencian and Castilian. It is one of the largest barrios in the city and falls into three parts: huerta still farmed in the north, up to the Camí de Farinós and the border with Alboraia; the university campuses in the middle, along the Avinguda dels Tarongers; and housing blocks in the south. It borders La Malva-rosa and Beteró to the east, La Vega Baixa, Ciutat Jardí and L'Illa Perduda to the south, and Benimaclet and Camí de Vera to the west.

Carrasca is the Valencian word for the holm oak, according to the Diccionari Català-Valencià-Balear. We have not found a source that explains why this part of the huerta took that name, so we do not go further than the meaning of the word.

According to the Ajuntament's municipal register, 3,321 people lived in La Carrasca on 1 January 2025, on 196.3 hectares, up from 2,823 in 1991. Most of that land is the Vera campus of the Universitat Politècnica, which arrived in 1970, and the Tarongers campus of the Universitat de València; the Avinguda dels Tarongers follows the line of the old railway to the Malva-rosa beach. North of the campuses, alqueries, irrigation channels and fields of onions and tiger nuts survive.

Transport and trade-offs: tram lines 4 and 6 stop at Universitat Politècnica and Tarongers-Ernest Lluch, and the beach is a short ride east. There is plenty of open space, but very little housing, few shops outside term-time life and long walks across the campuses. La Vega Baixa lies to the south, Camí de Vera to the west and Beteró to the east.

What rent costs in La Carrasca (September 2026)

La Carrasca asks 13 EUR per m² a month on Fotocasa's rent index for September 2026, below the 18 EUR the city of Valencia averages. At that rate a 70 m² two-bedroom lists at around 910 EUR a month, before you negotiate. These are asking prices on new listings, not what sitting tenants pay.

Asking prices here are 1.5% above a year earlier, against 7% for the city as a whole.

This is the figure for the barrio itself. The Algiros district it belongs to reads 16 EUR on the same index.

Fotocasa publishes a figure specific to La Carrasca, but the barrio has little housing, so the sample is small; treat it as a rough guide.

Our renting guide explains what landlords ask for and what the fianza and agency fee add on signing day, and the upfront cost calculator runs the maths for any rent.

The Conselleria's school guide doesn't allow direct links to an individual school's page, so each card below gives you the school's official code instead. Open the guide, paste the code into the search box and the school's page comes up. Like many Spanish public administration websites, it takes a little patience.
