Living in Les Tendetes

Les Tendetes () is a small residential barrio in the Campanar district, on the north bank of the Turia gardens opposite El Carme and El Botànic. Campanar's old village core lies to the west, Marxalenes to the east and El Calvari to the north.

In Castilian it is Las Tendetas, though the Ajuntament and most street signs use the Valencian form. The name means "the little shops": tendeta is the diminutive of tenda, the Valencian word for a shop. Local histories say the hamlet took it from the small shops and taverns that stood here until the mid-20th century; the written record is thin, so read that as the accepted explanation rather than a proven one.

In the 15th century the hamlet was known as Tendetes Marjalena and was tied to the suburb of Marxalenes. It passed to the new parish of Campanar in 1507 and was annexed to Valencia together with Campanar in 1897. Farmland of the Horta surrounded it until the 1960s, when the blocks that make up most of the barrio today replaced it.

According to the Ajuntament's municipal register, 5,435 people lived in Les Tendetes on 1 January 2025, on 25.8 hectares. That is far denser than the Campanar barrio next door, and it shows: mid-rise blocks, ground-floor shops and the Parc de Tendetes as the main green space inside the boundary.

Transport: the Campanar and Túria metro stations, both on lines 1 and 2, are within walking distance of most of the barrio, and the Turia gardens along its southern edge are the quickest way into the centre on foot or by bike.

Trade-offs: the housing is plain and parking is tight, and nightlife means crossing the river to El Carme. In return you get the gardens, the metro and everyday shops close by, with Campanar and Marxalenes as neighbours.

What rent costs in Les Tendetes (September 2026)

Fotocasa publishes no rent index for Les Tendetes: the sample is too small. Its neighbours in the Campanar district read between 20 EUR and 21 EUR per m² a month in September 2026, against 18 EUR for the city of Valencia as a whole.

Fotocasa does not publish an index for Les Tendetes on its own, so the range above comes from the neighbouring Campanar barrios it does cover. Expect flats here to sit close to that range rather than at either end.

Our renting guide explains what landlords ask for and what the fianza and agency fee add on signing day, and the upfront cost calculator runs the maths for any rent.

Public and concertado schools in this neighbourhood

The Conselleria's school guide doesn't allow direct links to an individual school's page, so each card below gives you the school's official code instead. Open the guide, paste the code into the search box and the school's page comes up. Like many Spanish public administration websites, it takes a little patience.
